More than 20 years ago. Near where I was working at the time, there was an area of open fields.
At dusk, walking in the northerly wind, I noticed a red colour.
The area was a desolate, winterised landscape. I wondered if I was seeing illusions from exhaustion. When I looked closer, I saw that there were one or two persimmon fruits left.
Why were they still there?
I liked persimmons, both the ones that remained crunchy and the ripe ones, and dried persimmons were also a favourite.
If they were left on the branch, they were probably astringent persimmons. But the others must have been harvested to be dried. I don't know why some were left behind. Is it a consideration to leave bright colours in a colourless landscape? Or is it an act of charity for birds such as ravens?
With these thoughts in mind, I walked back to work in the cold dusk.
I recall feeling somewhat lighter and a warmth spreading through my heart.
