Even inside an air-conditioned room, we could sense the heat outside.
The time spent waiting for dusk dragged on.
I altered the aspect ratio, trying to fit the shadows on the wall into the frame. Her shadow puppet moved as she raised and lowered her arms. I recalled a photo of a female model I follow on Instagram and mentioned it to Mi-san. Her movements, seemingly based on ballet training, remained beautiful even in wide shots. The photographer was always the same. I longed for a way of shooting that was conscious of the surrounding space.
A while passed, like playing with shadows.
At last, we open the curtains. The direct sunlight begins to hide behind the buildings, behind the western hills, becoming the light I favour. Yet the allotted time for the shoot is now almost up. When I tell her just a few more shots and we'll finish, a faint smile appears at the corner of Mi-san's mouth.
Thinking there's nothing better than that smile, I finish the shoot.
空調の効いた部屋の中に居ても、外の暑さが分かる。
夕暮れ待ちの時間が続いた。
アスペクト比を変えて、壁面の影まで画面に入れてみる。
腕の上げ下げで、彼女の影法師が動く。インスタグラムでフォローしている女性モデルの写真を思い出し、それをみさんにも伝えた。バレエの心得があるらしいその人の動きは引きの画面でも美しい。カメラマンはずっと同じ。周りの空間を意識した撮り方に憧れる。……
一頻り、影遊びのような時間が続いた。
漸くカーテンを開くことができた。直射日光はビルの向こう、西の山に隠れ始め、私の好きな光になってくる。しかし、約束の撮影時間は、もう残り僅かだ。
あと何枚で終了しますと告げると、みさんの口許に微かな笑みが浮かんだ。
その笑みに優るものはないなと思いながら撮り終えた。
